Bondi to Tamarama

The coastal walk from Bondi Beach to Tamarama Beach is a beauty in itself, attracting tonnes of people every year on its own. The walk is 1.2 kilometres long and takes about 20 minutes.

Once a year the walk hosts Sculpture by the Sea. In its 19th year it hosted sculptures from 18 different countries. The exhibition ran from 22 October 2015 to 8 November 2015.

The artists have to pitch their artwork to the organisation that runs it and has to select where on the walk they would like their artwork placed.

The artists can win a number of awards with the top one being the Macquarie Group Sculpture Prize worth $60,000.00 and the artwork is also for sale.

The sculptures are both inside and out, so if you don’t want to do the walk you can check out the miniatures of the sculptures.

My favourite sculpture was Open Home by Kate Carroll. The piece looked like a mosaic igloo. It was big enough for a child to crawl into.

The exhibition expected over 500,000 people.

Bondi Beach is approximately half an hour walk from Bondi Junction (the nearest train station), there is also regular buses from Bondi Junction to Bondi Beach.
